A new Forbes Advisor report analyzed all 50 states and the District of Columbia to find which areas are the most and least affected by retail crime, and Wisconsin ranked as the 26th-most impacted.

To determine the rankings, six metrics were analyzed, including retail theft relative to population, the total value of stolen goods, and larceny-theft rates.

The report found the total value of stolen goods in Wisconsin to be $171 per resident, and its lost tax revenue amounted to $35 per resident. The state saw 973 incidents per 100,000 residents. It also had a 13% decrease in larceny-theft between 2019–2022.
