Census data reveals steep Madison population growth

One of the fastest-growing large cities in the state, Madison added 36,631 residents over the past decade, an increase of 16%, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. The population of Madison in 2020, as reported by Redistricting Data Hub, was 269,840. The data is based on U.S. Census Bureau information released last week. Additionally, the Madison metro area was the fastest growing in the state, adding 75,361 residents for a 12.4% increase and a total population of 680,796. According to the data, 73.6% of Madison residents identified as non-Hispanic white; 7% identified as Hispanic or Latino; 7% identified as Black or African American; 9% identified as Asian; and 3.5% identified as two or more races.
