The Madison Metropolitan School District, Madison College and Exact Sciences are collaborating to grow opportunities for students enrolled in the Early College STEM Academy.

The program helps prepare students for success in college and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Through Exact Sciences, students will gain opportunities in the biotechnology field. Students will be able to tour Exact Sciences’ Cologuard lab, dive into the science of its Cologuard Plus product and receive resume and interview tips from the Exact Sciences talent team.

Exact Sciences is a molecular diagnostics company specializing in the detection of early-stage cancers.

“This partnership is about developing the next generation of innovators,” Katie Boyce, senior director of corporate impact and strategic communications at Exact Sciences, said in a statement. “By showing students what science looks like in action and introducing them to real career paths, we hope to inspire them to see how their passion for STEM can shape their future.”

The STEM Academy also offers students a chance to earn college credit through Madison College.

According to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, demand for STEM and biotech jobs is growing, with the city consistently needing to fill about 300 jobs in biotechnology. The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development anticipates adding 225,071 new jobs in technical and STEM fields from 2022-2032.
