A 2022 rate increase sought by Alliant Energy would increase monthly residential bills by about $13.50, according to a report from Wisconsin State Journal. A deal was struck with consumer and environmental advocates to raise gas and electricity rates to phase out the Alliant Energy coal fleet. If approved by regulators, the rates will add an estimated $8.50 for electricity and $5 for gas each month to a typical residential bill. The utility says the increase is needed to cover investments of nearly $1 billion in solar generation.
