On Thursday night, the Dane County Board passed the contract awarding Miron Construction the Dane County Jail renovation project, according to WMTV15. The board approved an amendment to the contract to obtain a union contractor, which must include local workers supporting the project.

The approval follows the board’s Jan. 18 vote in favor of allotting an additional $22 million in bond money from the 2024 county budget to fund the project. Officials say living and working conditions have deteriorated at the jail, forcing the relocation of some inmates to nearby facilities due to limited available space.
