SSM Health is set to sell three of its Wisconsin nonprofit nursing homes to New Jersey for-profit long-term care company Complete Care, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Among them is Madison’s 184-bed St. Mary’s Care Center, the largest of Dane County’s 18 nursing homes.
SSM Health on Wednesday announced its plans to sell the Madison facility, the 102-bed St. Clare Meadows in Baraboo, and the 50-bed Christian Home and Rehabilitation Center in Waupun. Complete Care owns nine Wisconsin nursing homes as well as facilities in five other states.
The terms of the deal — which is subject to regulatory approvals – remain confidential. SSM Health employees will be able to stay on with Complete Care.
According to the state Department of Health Services, 11 of Dane County’s 18 nursing homes are owned by for-profit corporations or limited liability companies. Nationally, for-profit companies own about 72% of the over 15,000 facilities.
