BDO USA LLP of Chicago, which has offices in Madison and Milwaukee, announced plans to purchase Middleton-based Smith & Gesteland in a deal expected to be completed by July 1. Terms were not disclosed.
All of Smith & Gesteland’s 85 employees are included in the transaction, which will increase BDO’s Wisconsin presence to 185 professionals, according to a BDO USA release. BDO currently has more than 60 offices and over 550 independent alliance firm locations nationwide.
“In combining with BDO, we will form the leading firm serving middle market businesses in the Madison market, while providing both our clients and our people with additional opportunities for growth,” stated Bill Pellino, managing partner of Smith & Gesteland, which celebrated its 70th anniversary this year. When the transaction is finalized, Pellino will become BDO’s tax managing partner for the company’s Wisconsin practice while Dan Kramer, BDO’s assurance managing partner for Wisconsin, will continue in his role.
Eventually, the two west side offices will combine into one.
