Some of the largest pantries in Dane County have reported higher-than-normal demand for food while donations are down, according to a release from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul — Madison. Area food pantries are seeing record numbers with rising demand and inflation, and that has operational leaders worried about the immediate future. Since January, over 1,300 new households throughout Dane County have registered for services from The River Food Pantry. The Badger Prairie Needs Network will serve a record 35,000 individuals in 2022 — up 85% from last year — and the number of monthly visits to the food pantry at Middleton Outreach Ministry has increased by 116% since this time last year. Food pantries in the area welcome monetary and food donations, along with volunteer help.
