Wisconsin used car purchases up 14.8% during pandemic

A new report from CoPilot using data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis’ Personal Consumption Expenditures found that used-car spending in Wisconsin increased by 14.8% during the pandemic — a total change of $524.9 million. Nationwide, per capita annual spending on used cars jumped 11.3% between 2019 and 2020, the second-highest single-year increase in nearly 25 years. The findings for Wisconsin include:

  • Percentage change in used-car spending (2019–2020): +14.8%; 
  • Total change in used-car spending (2019–2020): +$524,900,000; 
  • Used-car spending per capita (2020): $699; and 
  • Used-car spending per capita (2019): $610. 

Comparable statistics for the entire United States are:
