Wisconsin low for minority-owned startups
In a new report from Self Financial, minority-owned startups make up only 9.23% of startups in the state, while minorities account for 19.20% of the total population. This places Wisconsin with the 17th lowest percentage of minority-owned startups in the nation.
A lack of access to capital and disproportionate representation in industries most susceptible to economic shocks are two of the primary barriers that minorities face in entrepreneurship. As a result, minorities are underrepresented in the startup economy relative to their share of the population.
