Wisconsin is middle of the pack in technology and science

Wisconsin was ranked 24th out of 50 states for its success in technology and science, according to the 2022 State Technology and Science Index from the Milken Institute.

It falls behind other Midwest states like Michigan and Minnesota, which scored 17th and 13th, respectively, although Wisconsin did improve on its 25th place ranking from the 2020 Index.

The report was drawn from data sources such as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. It measured states on five essential components of the industry: research and development inputs; risk capital and entrepreneurial infrastructure; human capital investment; technology and science workforce; and technology concentration and dynamism.

Wisconsin ranked highest in the technology and science workforce index, which measures employment in the technology industry.

The Badger State scored the lowest in the risk capital and entrepreneurial infrastructure index, which measures venture capital, funding, patents, business formations, and more.
