Wisconsin company sued for alleged use of child labor

The U.S. Department of Labor has sued Kieler, Wisconsin-headquartered Packers Sanitation Services Inc. (PSSI) for allegedly hiring minors to clean meat packing plants in Minnesota and Nebraska, according to a Wisconsin Public Radio report. A Nebraska judge has ordered the company to comply with a federal investigation into allegations that it used child labor. According to the complaint, PSSI hired 31 minors between 13 and 17 years old, and several of those minors suffered chemical burns and other injuries. PSSI employs 17,000 people nationwide and services 700 food processing plants. A hearing on the case is scheduled for Nov. 23.
