Wisconsin companies raised $87.8 million of venture capital in 2015

According to a new MoneyTree report released by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and the National Venture Capital Association, 23 Wisconsin companies raised $87.8 million of venture capital in 2015.

That’s an improvement over the previous year — 26 companies raised $71.8 billion in 2014 — but it pales in comparison to the $58.8 billion raised by companies nationally.

In Wisconsin, biotech and medical device companies accounted for a combined $56.8 million, or 64% of the state’s 2015 venture funding, the MoneyTree report revealed. Consumer products and services was the next highest industry, with Madison-based EatStreet hauling in $15 million from one deal.
