Willy Street hotel, café in the works

James Montgomery, a longtime Madison east sider, is hoping to bring a new, family friendly café and 11-room boutique hotel to the Willy Street neighborhood.

Montgomery has proposed the Marquette Hotel & Café for 412 S. Baldwin St. in a building built as a church in 1906 but most recently owned by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and used as a daycare. A three-story addition to the property would be built where a small playground once stood.

According to a story at madison.com, Montgomery’s proposal has received a thumbs-up from the Landmarks Commission, but needs more city approvals.
