Willy Street Co-op approves $4M remodeling project

Willy Street Co-op members approved a $4 million remodeling project for the store’s 1221 Williamson St. location. In 2012, members approved a $2 million proposal to pay for revamping offices, improving a loading dock and receiving area, and replacing flooring. But after that passed, co-op members and staff decided more needed to be done. The additional $2 million just approved will mean upgrades to refrigeration units, heating and cooling systems, and further grocery-related features. The co-op wants to improve customer mobility throughout the store, which rings up about 15,000 transactions weekly and employs 120 workers.
