Why Code Madison Forward?
“We live in a world where talent is evenly distributed, but opportunity is not.” — Mark Zuckerberg
Likewise, we believe technology is a space meant for all, but not accessible to all. Furthermore, with women making up 30% of all our nation’s tech jobs and people of color only 32%, it is evident technology is made for all, but not made by all. This divide starts early. Girls and youth of color have limited opportunities to express themselves on the technology platform.
As an organization, Maydm aspires to celebrate the talent that our community holds and develop the connections between skill and opportunity so that technology is not just made for women and people of color, but also made by them.
It is with this vision that we have organized Code Madison Forward. We want to make this an opportunity to showcase that girls and youth of color not only belong in the tech world, but can also succeed in places of influence, such as the Wisconsin State Capitol. More importantly, this event will equip students with key programming skills and serve as an avenue for recognition by our community and professionals in the industry, truly bridging the gap between ability and possibility.
