WHEDA awards $500K in housing grants

In a move that will allow housing providers to create or improve more than 1,005 beds or units, the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority Foundation will award $513,824 in housing grants to 29 housing providers throughout the state, including three in Dane County.

The grants, awarded during the WHEDA Foundation’s annual Housing Grant Program competition, help housing providers build new facilities or make improvements to their existing facilities. Winning grant proposals were earned by Dane County organizations, including: Movin’ Out, Madison, $15,000; Porchlight Inc., Madison, $16,000; and Women in Transition, Madison, $17,740.

WHEDA, an independent state authority, provides low-cost financing for housing and small business development in Wisconsin. The annual Housing Grant Program competition is funded entirely by WHEDA reserves using no state tax dollars.
