West Johnson Street high-rise proposed

Developer Les Orosz is proposing a 12-story apartment building geared toward young professionals near the Kohl Center. The $21 million project would require the demolition of three buildings — at 425, 431, and 435 W. Johnson St. — to make way for a glass, metal, and masonry high-rise with 148 apartments and four levels of underground parking. A mechanical valet parking system, which would automatically move cars into storage spaces, is also being considered. Orosz wants to submit plans in mid-February, and he hopes for a groundbreaking later this year.
