WEA Trust to end medical coverage in Wisconsin, lay off 110

Wisconsin-based nonprofit WEA Trust and Health Tradition Health Plan announced it will be ending its health insurance market offerings by the end of 2022. The WEA Trust will continue to maintain long-term care, life, and vision coverage for its members. The organization cites challenges related to health care consolidation, the costs associated with the global pandemic, and the drop in the stock market for the decision.

The insurer will begin a phased approach to reduce its workforce by notifying 110 employees that their positions are ending. Each employee will be offered a severance package and a minimum of 60 days’ notice. In a related letter to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Madison-based NeuGen LLC, a shared services organization that supports both health insurance companies, stated it would permanently cease certain health insurance-related operations at its Madison facility at 45 Nob Hill Road. The planned action is scheduled for Aug. 1, 2022, and will permanently displace 110 people at the company on Aug. 15, 2022.

Existing WEA Trust and Health Tradition Health Plan members will continue to be covered under their current contract without changes to their benefits plan and provider network until they choose new health insurance coverage or Dec. 31, 2022, whichever is earlier.
