Wausau Daily Herald: ERCO Worldwide plans $18 million expansion

PORT EDWARDS — A planned $18 million expansion at the ERCO Worldwide plant in Port Edwards will make south Wood County a significant player in the hydrochloric acid market, a company official said.

The two-year project, which the Canadian chemical producer announced late Tuesday afternoon, will double the plant's current ability to produce 120,000 wet tons of compound to about 240,000, said Geoff Bertin, plant manager.

"There is significantly more (hydrochloric acid) purchased in our region than we currently produce," Bertin said. "We feel that we'll be better situated to play a bigger role in our market area."
