Walker's trip to China nets ginseng deal

Gov. Scott Walker’s trade trip to China has resulted in a signed agreement between Tong Ren Tang, a Chinese medicine company; the Ginseng Board of Wisconsin; and the Ginseng & Herb Co-op that could generate $150 million to $200 million or more in sales for Wisconsin’s ginseng producers. Over the next 10 years, the Chinese company will use a trademark seal on its purchases of Wisconsin ginseng from the Ginseng & Herb Co-op. The deal renews a five-year agreement that was set to expire this summer. Wisconsin is the producer of nearly all U.S.-cultivated ginseng.
