Walker leads Burke in poll

According to the latest Marquette Law School Poll, Gov. Scott Walker holds a six-point lead over Mary Burke, his likely opponent in November’s gubernatorial election. The poll, which surveyed 802 registered voters, gives Walker a 47% to 41% edge over Burke, a former Trek Bicycle executive and state commerce secretary.

In what could be even better news for the governor, 54% of respondents say the state is headed in the right direction, while just 40% say it’s on the wrong track. Before the recall election in June 2012, 52% said the state was headed in the right direction and 44% disagreed. Walker’s job approval numbers also rose. In the latest poll, 51% said they approved of his work on the jobs front, while 42% disapproved, compared to 49% who approved in October and 47% who disapproved.
