Walker approves robotic deliveries

Gov. Scott Walker signed Senate Bill 148, allowing for small, motorized robots on wheels — think small, driverless cars — to make deliveries in the future.

The bill adds “personal delivery devices” as a class of vehicle subject to state regulation, according to a story in The Capital Times. It also establishes rules in regards to robot speed, weight, and where they can operate — sidewalks and crosswalks only.

Starship Technologies, launched by the founders of Skype, has been encouraging states to adopt this technology, and in addition to Wisconsin it has been successful in Idaho and Virginia.
