Focus and habits

In their book The Power of Focus, Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, and Les Hewitt define habit as “something you do so often it becomes easy.” Mark Twain said, “Habit is a habit and not to be flung out of the window by any man but coaxed downstairs a step at a time.” Somerset Maugham (1874-1965), English playwright, novelist, and short story writer, said, “The unfortunate thing about this world is that good habits are so much easier to give up than bad ones.”

Dealing with the day to day

Every now and then, I have a day when I am amazed that I get anything done. In our digital world, we now have countless distractions from “life in the fast lane,” like email, voicemail, and other things that demand our quick attention. Some days, there are so many interruptions that it’s difficult to stay focused on what has to be done before the workday is over.

Focus on optimism

Optimism is a belief in, and expectation of, positive outcomes, even in the face of difficulty, challenge, or crisis. Optimism is an attitude! When things go wrong, which happens at times in every kind of business, thinking optimistically and looking for the good path can be the difference between “making it” and “losing it.” Optimism comes into play when we assume, and expect, success, satisfaction, and achievement in our work.

Characteristics of winners

And, the winner is ... wow, when those words are spoken, one person, or a group, or a business, or a group of businesses lets their breath out and stands up and goes to accept their reward amid rounds of applause. The feelings they have are electric. The crowd loves them. Everyone loves a winner!
