UW’s Red Gym-Amazon decision under fire

Since word broke that UW–Madison’s Board of Regents had approved an agreement with Amazon to dedicate about 2,000 square feet of space in the Red Gym as an order pickup location, students, faculty, and business groups have raised concerns and received an apology from vice chancellor for finance and administration, Laurent Heller.

The Associated Students of Madison is angry that students, faculty, and staff weren’t consulted first, and have asked the university to consider a different location, according to The Capital Times.

They argue the Amazon business would detract from student organizations already located in the historic building.

With state money declining, the university stands to generate more than $100,000 per year by hosting an Amazon “Pickup Point” on campus.
