UW–Madison unveils library consolidation plans

The University of Wisconsin is looking to make Memorial Library at the campus end of State Street more welcoming to the public as part of a newly completed libraries master plan.

According to The Capital Times, that 25-year plan would consolidate the number of campus libraries from more than 30 to six — including one yet to be built in the south campus area — that would serve as “hubs” around campus.

Studies of library usage and demands have been going on for the past year, but Memorial Union work isn’t expected to begin until 2028.
