UW–Madison participating in Red Cross blood challenge
The University of Wisconsin–Madison is participating in the Share your BIG Heart Blood Challenge to help boost the blood supply this winter. Universities across the Big Ten conference will compete to see who can collect the most lifesaving blood between Jan. 20–Feb. 28.
Last year, conference universities faced off in a similar blood drive competition and approximately 3,000 lifesaving donations were collected. This year, at least nine universities are participating in the challenge, and about 4,500 donations will be collected.
Donors of all blood types — especially type O — are encouraged to make an appointment to give.
Prospective donors can make an appointment to give blood by using the Red Cross Blood Donor app, visiting RedCrossBlood.org and using sponsor codes Badgers or Bucky to find an appointment on campus, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
