UW–Madison names new business dean

Vallabh Sambamurthy, associate dean of the MBA and professional master’s programs at the Broad College of Business at Michigan State University, has been selected as the Albert O. Nicholas Dean of the Wisconsin School of Business, the university announced. He is scheduled to begin Aug. 1, succeeding Barry Gerhart, a professor of management and human resources, who has served as interim dean since February 2018.

Sambamurthy, who previously served at business schools at the University of Maryland and Florida State University, is considered a global expert on how firms compete in the digital economy. He co-authored the book Guiding the Digital Business Transformations: An Executive Agenda.

“I believe we can position the Wisconsin School of Business as an exemplary hub of lifelong learning, delivering skills that address the evolving needs of the global digital economy,” Sambamurthy says.

Sambamurthy received his doctorate from Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, a master’s in business administration from the Indian Institute of Management in Calcutta, India, and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the National Institute of Technology in Tiruchirappalli, India.
