UW layoffs could start in April

In response to Gov. Walker’s proposed $300 million cut to the UW System, UW Chancellor Rebecca Blank said layoffs could begin as soon as April.

According to a Wisconsin State Journal story, Blank said she could cut all funding to the university’s smallest schools — business, law, nursing, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine — and still not come up with the necessary cuts, though she does not intend to do that. While she does not anticipate mass layoffs, Blank suggested state employees may not receive wage increases this year.
