Update: Beacon will open despite funding concerns

The Beacon, a day center for the homeless being built at 615 E. Washington Ave. in Madison, will open Oct. 16 as planned, even though long-term funding has not yet been secured.

The center needs another $135,000 for 2018 and a budget of $680,000 per year to operate.

Jackson Fonder, president and CEO of Catholic Charities Madison, which is operating the center, is optimistic funding will be found, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
