University of Phoenix to close Madison, Brookfield, and Grand Chute campuses

The University of Phoenix will stop enrolling new students and eventually close its Madison, Brookfield, and Grand Chute campuses due to declining enrollment, higher costs, and news that its parent group, Apollo Group, Inc., lost 60% of its net income in its fiscal fourth quarter. The company will close 115 campuses nationwide, affecting 13,000 students, but its remaining 112 campuses, including Milwaukee’s, will remain open. In Madison, arrangements will be made for the nearly 150 current on-campus students who attend classes one night a week. They will be able to complete their classes through graduation, although the site may change.
