UnityPoint Health patients face another breach

In its second data breach this year, UnityPoint Health, parent of UnityPoint Health – Meriter in Madison, may face yet another class-action lawsuit related to compromising patient data.

An incident discovered on May 31 may have affected 1.4 million patients between March 14 and April 3, including about 76,000 in Wisconsin. Names, addresses, and patient records may have been stolen. According to a story in the Wisconsin State Journal, workers were likely duped into believing an electronic message asking for sign-in information came from a company executive.

The earlier breach, announced in April, could have affected 16,400 patients.
