Time flies as 40 Under 40 turns 20 in 2020

From the pages of In Business magazine.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve started to have plenty of those “Wow, I’m getting old” moments. Everything from seeing my oldest daughter head off to middle school to the harsh reality of seeing my body deteriorate with those daily aches and pains. But it was probably my 40th birthday last summer that really started to hit home for me. I couldn’t possibly be as old as I thought my parents were when they turned 40, could I?

Another reminder that Father Time is undefeated is that IB will be unveiling its 20th class of 40 Under 40 next March! While I haven’t been around for all 20, we had just unveiled our first class when I joined IB in 2002. With all of this in mind, it’s the time of year when we start to take applications for next year’s class, and I would like to encourage all Madison area professionals under the age of 40 (as of March 1, 2020) to put your hat in the ring and fill out an application. If you’re fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the 40 honorees, it’s an accomplishment you’ll take a lot of pride in for the remainder of your career.

We’ll also be doing some fun things around the 20th anniversary, and this year we’ve started an annual alumni event, so there will be even more opportunities to stay connected with past 40 Under 40 classes!

The application can be filled out online at www.ibmadison.com/40under40survey, and it must be filled out by Friday, Nov. 15. We do ask that applications be filled out by the individual that is applying for the 40 Under 40. If you have someone who you think would be a great candidate, please encourage him/her to fill out the application or email me at jon@ibmadison.com with your candidate’s contact information, and I’d be happy to reach out on your behalf.

Two final thoughts for those filling out an application: please be as detailed as you can when answering each of the questions, and I would definitely encourage you to seek two or three reference letters and attach them along with your application (at the end of the online form). Each year, competition is extremely stiff for these 40 spots, so it’s important that you do your best to stand out from the crowd!
