TDS starts construction on Fitchburg fiber network expansion
TDS Telecommunications LLC has broken ground on its major 8,000-address fiber network expansion in Fitchburg, according to a news release. The move comes a month after the company announced it had reached a memorandum of understanding with the city.
TDS’ build will multiply the size of the company’s existing Fitchburg footprint by eight times. The Madison-headquartered company first brought fiber connections to Fitchburg in early 2016. Construction on this expansion will include accessing utility easement areas so contractors can install conduit and fiber cable. The network will launch in phases, becoming available to customers as sections of the network are finished.
Addresses included in the new fiber footprint can choose from a range of symmetrical internet speeds up to 8-gig, and businesses gain dedicated connections up to 10-gig backed by a service-level agreement.
Across Wisconsin, TDS is investing nearly $1 billion to grow its fiber network footprint in Janesville, Whitewater, Brookfield, Onalaska, Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and Marshfield.
