TDS donates $150k to Center for Black Excellence and Culture

TDS Telecommunications LLC has announced that it is donating $150,000 toward the construction of The Center for Black Excellence and Culture in Madison. The news came after the center announced it was more than halfway to its $36 million fundraising goal. Thus far, the center has raised $20 million from a variety of companies, foundations, and individuals.

TDS Telecom President and CEO Jim Butman called the center a historical and transformational cultural project for Madison. When the building is complete, the center will be a 65,000-square-foot destination to cultivate and celebrate Black culture, honor Black achievement, and showcase Black excellence. The center, which hopes to open in 2023, will be located on six acres of land in the 600 block of West Badger Road on Madison’s south side.
