Stoughton Trailers hopes to expand
Stoughton’s largest employer is hoping to build a new corporate headquarters, according to a story at connectstoughton.com.
Reportedly, Stoughton Trailers, a semi-trailer manufacturer that’s been in the city since 1961, asked the city for $8.2 million in tax incremental financing to support the expansion of its administrative offices. The company wants to build a $15 million, 110,000-square-foot facility that could generate about $8.2 million in property taxes annually.
For obvious reasons, the company wants to remain in Stoughton, but President Bob Wahlin says it has received TIF information from surrounding communities, as well. The city of Stoughton is working on a counteroffer.
The 57-year-old manufacturer has more than 1,500 employees and seven plants across three area communities: Stoughton, Evansville, and Brodhead.
