Statues restored, returned to downtown

After being removed from their bases and damaged, the Col. Hans Christian Heg and “Forward” statues have been returned to downtown Madison, according to a report from Wisconsin State Journal. The statues were restored by Venus Bronze Works at an estimated cost of $82,000, funded by $60,000 in grants, $13,000 from a Wisconsin Historical Society fundraising effort, and an insurance claim that is still being processed. The statues were damaged on June 23, 2020, when peaceful daytime protests turned violent and damaging at night.
