State hemp license applications decline

The Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) reported a steep decline in state hemp grower and processor applications in the state, according to a Wisconsin Public Radio report. Hemp growers and processors are required to register annually with DATCP as part of the state’s Hemp Research Program. This year the organization has received about 48% fewer grower applications and about 37% fewer processor applications than in 2020. According to DATCP, other hemp-growing states have seen a similar decline in the number of registrations.
