State has highest percentage of businesses affected by supply chain

According to an analysis by Filterbuy, Wisconsin has the most businesses affected by supply chain disruptions. Filterbuy says 53.3% of businesses in Wisconsin are experiencing domestic supplier delays, and 28.6% are seeing delays in delivery or shipping to their customers. The manufacturing, retail trade, and construction industries have suffered more than others due to supplier delays, and businesses that rely less on a supply of physical goods have felt less impact. States with a strong manufacturing presence like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania have been more heavily impacted. The data used in this analysis is from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Small Business Pulse Survey with responses collected from Jan. 3, 2022 through April 17, 2022. Other key findings for Wisconsin are:

  • 25.4% of businesses are having difficulties locating alternative domestic suppliers;  
  • 19.4% of businesses are experiencing foreign supplier delays;
  • 8.2% of businesses are having difficulties locating alternative foreign suppliers; and
  • 14.4% of businesses are experiencing production delays.

Key findings for the entire United States:

  • 44.4% of businesses are experiencing domestic supplier delays;
  • 24.9% of businesses are experiencing delays in delivery/shipping to customers;
  • 22.0% of businesses are having difficulties locating alternative domestic suppliers;
  • 18.5% of businesses are experiencing foreign supplier delays;
  • 8.6% of businesses are having difficulties locating alternative foreign suppliers; and
  • 13.5% of businesses are experiencing production delays.
