State among leaders in overall graduation rate, but lags in minority rate

According to a U.S. Education Department (USE) release, there’s both good and bad news regarding the state’s high school graduation rates. Based on a new uniform measurement tool the department employs, Wisconsin ranks second best in the nation for its 87% graduation rate, tied with Vermont and just slightly trailing Iowa. However, while the state’s 91% graduation rate among white students was enough to earn its second place ranking, its 64% graduation rate among black students was found to be 15th lowest in the nation.
