SSM Health to build surgery center in Sun Prairie
SSM Health has announced plans to build a Sun Prairie ambulatory surgery center at the site of its stand-alone emergency center, closing the ER and relocating its Davis Duehr Dean Eye Care center from Madison’s Regent Street, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. SSM Health plans to retain the Regent Street property for future use.
The new center will focus on orthopedics and eye care and is expected to open in 2025. It will be 90,000 square feet, with about double the number of operating rooms of the Regent Street center and a projected cost of around $60 million.
The ER building, opened in 2009, will be incorporated in the new facility plan; emergency care will be consolidated at St. Mary’s Hospital, and urgent care will be available at the South Stoughton Road SSM Health Dean Medical Group clinic.
The SSM Health plan comes as other providers, including a group of orthopedic surgeons who left SSM last year, are planning similar surgery centers in the Madison area.
