Sasaki’s ‘Voices of the Lake’ recommended in unanimous Ad Hoc Committee vote

A unanimous vote from the Lake Monona Waterfront Ad Hoc Committee Wednesday night selected Denver firm Sasaki’s “Voices of the Lake” waterfront redesign proposal, the Wisconsin State Journal reports. City officials will now begin negotiations for a contract with Sasaki.

A detailed master plan including waterfront construction and other John Nolen Drive-area elements is intended to be put forth by the end of September.

Other waterfront-area construction projects may complicate the timeline, however. Madison’s Engineering Division is looking to begin work on federally funded construction on John Nolen Drive in 2025. If the two projects can progress simultaneously, disruptions to traffic and surrounding businesses would be limited to a single block of time.

While the committee has made its recommendation for its members, the group will consider the scope of services and revise drafts of Sasaki’s master plan in the coming weeks; it will afterwards introduce the finalized plan to the board.

The drafting process will take into consideration an open collaboration between Sasaki, Madison officials, members of the Ho-Chunk Nation, and other stakeholders and will include a public presentation in August.
