Salvation Army considers redevelopment

The Salvation Army of Dane County is considering a major redevelopment of its current location at 630 E. Washington Ave. in an effort to bring a larger homeless shelter, transitional housing units/support services, and income-based and non-subsidized apartments to the downtown area, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

The plans, expected to cost about $25 million, would likely involve other sites nearby that the organization already has plans to purchase. Discussions are very preliminary at this stage and neighborhood meetings are being scheduled, but the Salvation Army would like to break ground sometime in the next two years.
