Retiring baby boomers could accelerate Wisconsin’s health care labor shortage
According to the Wisconsin Hospital Association’s 2023 workforce report released Tuesday, the expected increase in baby boomer retirements in the coming years will likely put extra strain on a health care industry that’s already dealing with worker shortages, Wisconsin Public Radio reported.
The report notes that people over 65 years of age make up about 20% of the population, but account for over 40% of health care usage. By 2030, one in five Americans will be at retirement age, along with roughly one in four Wisconsinites.
