Recall effort targets Fitchburg mayor
A group angry at Fitchburg Mayor Jason Gonzalez for pulling funding for nonprofits from his proposed 2018 operating budget has launched a recall campaign.
At issue, according to the Wisconsin State Journal, is funding that has been budgeted for Fitchburg nonprofits over the past three years, including $50,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County, $10,000 for a food pantry operated by Badger Prairie Needs Network, and $15,000 for a Healthy Neighborhood initiative.
Gonzalez says there is “wiggle room” for nonprofit funding in the budget, but that the dollars should be divvied up differently through a competitive process.
Those interested in the recall effort want the nonprofits fully funded.
