READ(y) to Wear fundraiser comes to the Sylvee in June

Madison Reading Project announced that READ(y) to Wear, a Madison fundraiser supporting local literacy, will take the stage Wednesday, June 14, at the Sylvee.

The annual paper dress and fashion design competition will this year center on a “Paper Masquerade” theme. Design teams of students, businesses, artists, and local nonprofits will showcase their paper fashions in a runway show.

The fundraiser will feature a strolling Venetian court jester, DJ Four7 Travis Beckum, silent auction items to bid on, and a build-a-mask craft station.

More than 20 teams will be shown before celebrity judges from Madison and Milwaukee, who include Brema Brema, Julie VonDerVellen, Darrell “DJ” Lynn Hines II, Sarah Weh, Jeff Mack, plus UW women’s basketball coach Marisa Moseley.

Jason Ilstrup, president of Downtown Madison Inc., and nationally honored drag queen Bianca Lynn Breeze will join Madison Reading Project’s executive director Rowan Childs as emcees and sideline fashion commentators.

READ(y) to Wear tickets may be purchased online, at the Sylvee box office, or at the door.
