Raven layoffs trigger walkout
Workers at Raven Software staged a walkout this week following the unexpected layoffs of 12 members of the studio’s quality assurance team, according to a Cap Times report. The 45 contractors of the largest video game development company in Madison wrote a statement through the ABK Workers Alliance, a group of workers at Raven’s parent company, Activision Publishing, and its subsidiaries who for several months have been calling for better working conditions. The action follows allegations of harassment and discrimination reported this summer. Workers called on Activision to reverse the layoffs and hire all 40 members of the quality assurance team as full-time employees, not contractors. Activision Publishing said the laid-off workers are impacted by a larger plan to turn temporary contractors into permanent employees.
