PSC approves Cardinal-Hickory Creek line

Rejecting charges of potential conflicts of interest by two of its members, the Wisconsin Public Service Commission has granted final approval for the nearly $500 million Cardinal-Hickory Creek transmission line between Dubuque, Iowa and Middleton.

Utility regulators, in a meeting disrupted by protestors, voted unanimously to approve the project after opponents raised potential conflicts on the part of Chairwoman Rebecca Valcq and Commissioner Mike Huebsch.

According to an article in the Wisconsin State Journal, Valcq and Huebsch rejected a call for recusal by the Driftless Area Land Conservancy and Wisconsin Wildlife Federation.

In August, the PSC granted preliminary approval for an application to build the line. The application was submitted by American Transmission Co., ITC Midwest, and Dairyland Power Cooperative.
