Proposed State Street hotel to go traditional

After months of back and forth between developers, the city of Madison, and neighbors, the design for a proposed $30 million hotel at the top of State Street will take on a more traditional appearance at the State Street level and forego the original modern design.

According to The Capital Times, the boutique hotel being proposed by developers Ascendant Holdings Real Estate and Central Properties will occupy the space of two buildings at 122 and 118 State St.

The hotel’s sleek design has been toned down to be more traditional, and the brick façade at 118 State St. will remain.

Provenance Hotels of Portland will run the hotel, which still needs the blessing of both the Urban Design Commission and Plan Commission.
