Progress Center for Black Women opens
Sabrina "Heymiss Progress" Madison celebrated the grand opening of the Progress Center for Black Women on Nov. 3.
The grand opening celebration was held at the temporary location of the Center, 5936 Seminole Centre Court, Suite 211, Fitchburg.
The Center will be a space where black women and their families can access resources, attend events, and make connections that will foster personal transformation — with the hope of transforming the community as a whole.
It will be located in Fitchburg for the next two years as plans are developed to build a permanent location. Plans for the permanent location include a computer lab, a community kitchen, a library and bookstore with a focus on black authors, and a community room where people can test out their poetry, plays, and other artistic pursuits.
“The Progress Center is about creating ownership for black women,” says Madison, the organizer of the Black Women's Leadership Conference, the Conversation Mixtape, the Black Business Expo, and the Black Excellence Youth Conference. “Black women especially will have a place that centers them and where they can lead their own projects.”
